Yellow Fish Road™ News

Yellow Fish Road Expands in Saskatchewan

Sakatchewan Wildlife FederationMore yellow fish will soon appear near stormdrains in several Saskatchewan communities thanks to a new partnership with the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) and Trout Unlimited Canada. The partnership allows the Yellow Fish Road™ program to be offered in several new communities and has already helped the Regina Girl Guides with their May 2nd event. For more information on the Yellow Fish Road™ program in Saskatchewan contact info@yellowfishroad.org.

Regina Girl Guides paint hundreds of fish!

The largest YFR event this year was held in Regina, Saskatchewan, on May 3rd when more than 400 yellow fish were stenciled on stormdrains in one afternoon. In addition to the stencils, approximately 1,900 Yellow Fish Road™ doorhangers were distributed to remind residents that stormdrains connect directly to rivers, lakes or streams. Thank you Regina Girl Guides!

New partnerships and new programs in Edmonton

For the first time ever the Yellow Fish Road™ is offering classroom and community group presentations in the Edmonton, Alberta, area. Kate Rolheiser, a fisheries student at Vancouver Island University, recently started work as the YFR Capital Region facilitator. Kate is making the Yellow Fish Road™ presentations and stenciling kits available to Edmonton and the surrounding communities through August. The expansion to the Alberta Capital region is a result of Trout Unlimited Canada’s commitment to education and the result of a partnership between the City of Edmonton and Alberta RiverWatch. If you know of a group that would like a Yellow Fish Road™ presentation or is interested in stenciling stormdrains in the Edmonton area please contact Kate at krolheiser@tucanada.org or (780) 499-9025.
